I feel much the same as Euan here. I think we are in for another bubble promoted by the collision of organizations looking for a silver bullet solution to hard problems and organizations that will make glib promises to meet quarterly sales targets.

Underneath all of that, however, I continue to hope that there will still be those organizations and individuals who are prepared to do the hard thinking and the patient work of shaping the evolution of organizations and technology in the direction of greater connection and communication

I totally agree James and to be honest it is why I thought long and hard about taking part in something so explicitly labeled as "Enterprise 2.0". It is very possible, if not probable, that it will be another bubble that will burst and it reminds me too much of the path that KM took.

However I believe that the underlying trend of greater connection, communication and collective sense making isn't going to go away. If we are patient with organisations and stay in it for the long haul then we will be able to help them make this stuff happen faster and less painfully.
