Berlin does a nice job of contrasting packaged software and Web-based applications and contrasting Google's disruption of Microsoft's juggernaut; but I would argue that he's principally talking about horizontal apps/services for small- and medium-sized enterprises. We at FAST believe that enterprise search for the world's greatest companies requires search to be incoporated into the fabric of the business. Said differently, FAST has chosen to apply an information access layer approach; whereas Google is introducing search and collaboration in (as many as possible) workplace tools. We're both on the right track.
