Interesting company Jon, and very thoughtful analysis on your part. Incidentally, I all too often am seeing the organization constantly viewing the 'wiki' as the next shiny object since sliced bread in terms of knowledge management ... because (egads) you can post documents, objects, etc. as well as project plans, information, etc. and then leave comments or post rankings in the same spot.

Dan, I'm wondering if that may be because the closest 'contact' many non-informed corporate decision-makers' closest contact with this environment has been Tapscott's Wikinomics and his promise that all will be solved with that route ? I'm teasing, but his book was for many execs the first 'acceptable' or politically-correct look at the issue, if you will ...

The benefits you cite as promised by the next shiny object are the non-controversial (and to some degree less important) effects of collaborative social computing in the larger sense, no ?

This is not where things need to go, and that's why I am a firm believer in the PKM theory. (wirearchy too)

PersonALL seems to provide such a panacea so long as it can in fact tap into all aspects of structured AND unstructured data sources. (that's key for me)

Like you stated earlier, it looks to be "fertile ground for the enracination (taking root of) using social computing to build more responsive and effective knowledge workplaces than was possible before."

Hi Jon, thanks for the post. Here is a quick question for you: One of the first things that struck me is that the name of the product is "Knowledge Networks." You may recall that Microsoft's social networking in the enterprise software from a couple years ago was called "Knowledge Network" (http://blogs.msdn.com/kn/). That codebase is/has apparently been plowed into SharePoint 14. Am I missing something? Are the two related? Should PersonAll be preparing for a lawsuit?
