ROI of Social Connections – $588 Per Month
by Joe McKendrick
As referenced in my previous post, Dion Hinchcliffe pointed to the results of a new study that linked social connections to income boosts.
The study, conducted by IBM Research and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (PDF available here), concluded that employees with “strong links” to a manager produced an average of $588 of revenue per month over the norm. The researchers also found that the average e-mail contact was worth $948 in revenue.
One caveat: the subjects of the study were technology consultants. Perhaps they are a bit more prone to be hyper about online connectedness?
The IBM-MIT study also found that consultants with “weak” ties to a number of managers produced $98 per month less than average, as they may suffer from “conflicting demands.” Too much of a good thing?
