Jon: You bring up many related issues: traction, critical mass and synchronistic synergy (connecting similar signals to make them one louder signal). Heck, even today, someone brought up a link to an HBR piece to improve collaboration by bulldozing the cubicles (http://bit.ly/5iZjO) to which I replied that Tom Demarco had said the same thing in Peopleware 1987.

I also think that there's another factor: channels and filters ( *smirk* suddenly reminded me of Ladders & Chutes ). You and I have both been waiting for this era, where we can -- through our own diligence of 'finding our voice' -- share our thoughts more openly, via channels and mechanisms that might overcome some of the issues noted at the beginning.

As well, we've often discussed my dismay that while I totally agree fundamentally with the focus of your concepts, there's something I can't put my finger on yet that allows me to 'drop' it all and lose interest. It's still an enigma. But the journey is worth it.

I used to write about the need to recognize an emerging field of practice (or one which I believe needs to emerge) that I called eOD (organizational development principles being put to use to begin the necessary changes as to how work and people are managed in interconnected environments).

Either I was too early, not clear enough, or wrong, 'cuz the notion sure didn't seem to be taken up much a couple of years ago .. but today it seems like lots of people are writing about related issues ?
