We’re excited to announce the next webinar in our ongoing series of discussions with leading thinkers and doers in social computing: “Gov 2.0: The Collaborative Opportunities of Open Government.”
The conversation, which will be held on September 29 from 1-2 p.m. EST and moderated by the ever-versatile Renee Hopkins, will feature the important work and keen observations of Beth Simone Noveck, US Deputy Chief Technology Officer for Open Government, and Andrew Rasiej, the co-founder of the Personal Democracy Forum, an annual conference and website covering the intersection of politics and technology.
Among the topics to be addressed:
- Transparency: How are government agencies, and those that service them, becoming more transparent.
- Collaboration: What are some of the ways the government can connect people and organizations to the content, issues, and communities they care about and want to improve?
- Technology: New technologies are playing an essential role in bringing the vision of open government to life through new tools and applications. How can organizations capitalize on the vast expansion of opportunity?

The three things that President Obama said he wants (and that Beth Noveck has been working on for the “Open Govt. Directive”) are:
1. Transparency
2. Participation
3. Collaboration
But I noticed that YOUR list substitutes “Technology” for Obama’s “Participation”.
And, hey, I like technology (having been online 20 years now), but I was wondering if there was a conscious reason for presenting three priorities that are close to, but different than, the three basic ones that Beth’s been given to work on.
I’ll understand if it’s simply a matter of not being interested in talking about “Participation”.
