FASTforward 08: Innovation Powered by Search
by Nancy Lai
Do search, the users, and innovation form a virtuous cycle? Effective search tools enable the user to extend beyond his or her knowledge horizon to information from others in the community, thus furthering innovation. In turn, innovation and the building of new ideas from existing knowledge generates more quality information that further enriches the ecosystem of users. It’s amazing how much search is at the heart of it all.
Innovation and the new enterprise information access landscape – “Enterprise 2.0” for short – is a key theme running through FASTForward08. The “Innovation Powered by Search” track will delve into how innovation powered by search is fundamentally changing how enterprises do business today.
The first session “Innovation Without Boundaries” takes a comprehensive view on how search helps enterprises develop new business models, roll out new products, find new customers and deepen customer relationships in the global marketplace. A tall order, you say? Well, come to this session where a distinguished set of panelists will tell you how it’s done:
- Brent Babin, National Instruments
- Cheng Han, DynoMedia, Inc.
- Tom Wilde, EveryZing
- Tim Duree, KBR
The next sessions will take you through an exciting journey where you can explore in depth how these different types of innovations powered by search have benefited some of the most successful and well-known companies and institutions in the world:
- Ready, Set, Innovate! The High-Octane Next Generation Research Portal: Kara Hansen, Disney
- Taking User Experience to a Whole New Level: Customer-Centric Innovation: Amit Bansal, Cisco Systems
- You Can Do It. Search Can Help. The Power of Context: Greg Merkle, Dow Jones
- BI Goes Mainstream: Strategies to Increase User Adoption: Philip Bierhoff, Procter & Gamble
- At the Speed of Search: Re-engineering the Innovation Value Chain with Pervasive BI: James Mason, New York University School of Law
Start your journey with the Enterprise Search Luncheon, taking place on Tuesday 2/19. Tom Davenport will moderate a panel session to address key enterprise search topics including user centricity, how FAST has been leveraged to enhance existing IT investments, and how enterprise search will evolve. How can strategic leverage of powerful search platforms provide companies with the catalyst for ongoing innovation? What does enterprise search mean in the context of the user revolution?
